But the program does not end there, Benque House representatives will also be giving educational talks on garbage and its effects on the town and how they can help Benque become Beautiful.

In addition to sponsoring a team, Benque House will be hosting team members and participants of the the Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge on their first night before the Big Race. Interested in staying in the same guest house as some of the teams and participants of the Belize Ruta Maya River Challenge? Then you need to stay at Benque House!

Racecourse:

The race will be divided into FOUR (4) segments, corresponding to each day of the race. The first day’s racecourse - March 6 - will run from the Hawkesworth Bridge in San Ignacio to Banana Bank for 49 miles. The second day’s racecourse - March 7 - will run from Banana Bank to Bermudian Landing for 60 miles. The third day’s racecourse - March 8 - will run from Bermudian Landing to Burrell Boom for 36 miles. The fourth day’s racecourse - March 9 - will run from Burrell Boom to the Belcan Bridge in Belize City for the last 25 miles. The Competition Committee will determine and designate the exact starting time and point as well as the finish point of each day’s course. These times and points will be announced to all teams and clearly marked prior to the beginning and finish of each day’s race. The race covers a full 170 miles!

The race occurs each year in March, coinciding with Baron Bliss Day. This year (2009), the canoes will leave San Ignacio on March 6 and arrive in Belize City on March 9. The teams, which race for station prizes along the way, battle for the major cash prizes awarded at the end of the race.
